August 2024 Post
So new month, new update. I wish I had more I could report on but I feel with how much time this more personal problem has been taking away from development I should bring it up.
So midway through June my house experienced a storm and a slight power failure. The failure caused my sump pump and sewage pump to stop working and my basement was flooded with around 3 inches worth of water sewage. I was thankfully able to act on this and handle it in a timely manner, rough estimation is that it took nearly a week and a half worth of work time to get everything cleaned up. I managed to get my basement back into a nice state slightly before the end of the first week of July, and around that time my family left on a vacation we were planning for around half a year. The vacation was out of the country for a week, which was nice and relaxing for the most part, so I couldn't really work on the game during that time. Though on the Monday of that week more storms hit the neighborhood my house was in, cutting off the power to the whole house and causing water to once more fill the basement. When I heard about this it was the next morning, I was still out of the country with my return date set for early morning that Thursday and my house was still without power, I was dreading all the work that I would have to re-put into my basement. When I got home I did my best to get everything cleaned up, the power having returned midday Tuesday so a good amount of the water was already drained by the sump pump, and inspecting how bad the damage was. From just my first assessment it seemed like I only got an inch of water standing that time, though based around how high some of the insulation was molded I dreaded what it meant. The mold on the insulation was much higher than it should have been if it were just an inch worth of water. Based around what I was seeing my new assessment was that it as around 6 inches of standing water.
The reason I am telling you all this is because I want to be up front with why there is a lack of content this time and why there isn't an update release for this month. Unfortunately this is going to take a good amount of my time so I am not sure how much stuff will get done in Project Minish. Hopefully by this time next month I will have better tidings but right now I am unsure and am sorry.
Though that isn't to say that the game wasn't worked on. I do have some things to report.
- For the main world the separation of Corruption Biomes has been smoothed and tinkered with to create a more natural look.
- Using the same technique I have started to make the Forge House look a bit more interesting
- Differing textures for the ground
- Scattered stones, nails, and arrows
- Sword shards in the sky
Needless to say there is still a large amount of work that needs to be done here: I need to make new textures for the path, I haven't even touched the town yet, carve out the caverns the first dungeon will be stationed in, and then all the texturing, lighting, and playtesting that goes into those areas. But I hope at the very least this small teaser will help to hold patience a bit.
